Alyssa Henning

Speech and Language Pathologist

Alyssa Henning received her bachelor’s and master’s degree at the University of Illinois in the area of communication sciences and speech language pathology. After some time in the field, Alyssa developed specific interests in school administration and special education law. She continued with her schooling and achieved her second master’s degree from Roosevelt University in Instructional Leadership with a Principal’s Endorsement. Upon receiving this degree, Alyssa continued practicing in the schools as a speech language pathologist while serving as a special education department supervisor and oversaw all students eligible under IDEA and Section 504. Alyssa Henning has an active Type 73 PEL for speech pathology, principal endorsement, is a registered ISBE independent evaluator, and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). 

Throughout her training and career, Alyssa has worked with an array of students with different communication challenges to identify their communication strengths and weaknesses and assist multidisciplinary teams in understanding how their communication profiles impact their academic and functional success. She has specific interests in conducting thorough evaluations and making recommendations on eligibility, qualifying services, drafting specific and measurable goals, and creating accommodations to allow a student to thrive in their academic settings. 

Alyssa understands how to meet a child and family’s unique needs and advocates for meaningful services and treatment based on their environment. She also values the importance of a student understanding their communication profile so they can develop the skills to advocate for their needs, utilize appropriate compensatory strategies, and take ownership of their learning. 

In her free time, Alyssa enjoys listening to audiobooks, watching and reading about figure skating, spending time in Lake Geneva, and keeping up with her three boys!
